Professor Geeta Menon
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust

Professor Geeta Menon is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust in Surrey. In addition to high-volume cataract surgery, she has developed a major interest in medical retina, particularly novel treatments for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). She designed and established a Mobile Macular Unit, the first of its kind in the country and won ‘Best example of Efficiencies’ award. Macular Disease Society awarded the coveted Clinical Service of the Year award 2014. Rated outstanding by the CQC 2014.

She is the Clinical Director for KSS CRN. In 2016 awarded the joint RCP and NIHR award for ‘Outstanding Research Leadership in the NHS’.

She was Postgraduate Dean HEE across South London. She is the National Clinical Director for workforce for Cancer and Diagnostics in the WTE in NHS England. She is National Dean for Inclusive Integrated Careers and Lead Dean for SAS and Locally Employed Doctors and National Lead for MWRES.

With VISION 2020 links programme she has set up Diabetic Retinopathy Screening in Zambia. She has extended this programme to St Lucia and Northern India. In March 2017 she was awarded the RCP at the Excellence in Patient Care International award.

She was appointed Chair of BAPIO in February 2023 being the first female chair since its inception.
